Friday's Fave Five

Susanne at Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday's Fave Five.  It's a chance to bloggers to share five of their favorite things from the week and encourage each other.  So, this morning, with my allergies running amuck and work piling up in my Inbox I decided to stop and think about my Fave Five.  Maybe it'll give the DayQuil a chance to kick in. :)

1)  Co-workers.  This was a pretty emotional week for several reasons, and I have three sweet co-workers who walk every step of the way with me.  They let me rant and rave and over-explain, but then they direct me back to God's wisdom with gentleness and humor.  This is no small thing when I consider that one year ago today I was ready to quit my job (with nothing else lined up) because of a negative, hateful work environment.  Thanks, ladies!

2)  Trick-or-Treating.  Sunday we participated in Trunk or Treat at church.

It was so much fun to see all the kids dressed up and running around with their little candy buckets.  It was even more fun to talk to people from the community who stopped by the event.  Then, once we got home, we continued to give out candy to the neighborhood kids.  At one point a small youth group came to our door.  Rather than taking candy, they were giving it away to represent the free love of Jesus Christ.  We ended up having an impromptu devotional on our front porch with total strangers.  Isn't God's family amazing?!

3)  Dinner with Mom.  Last night I had dinner with my mom.  That doesn't happen very often, so it's a treat when it does.  And not just because she picks up the tab. :)  We talked about some serious stuff, but then got that out of the way and watched the adorable little baby at the table next to us.  Then we traded stories about our crazy dogs.  One story involved a possum.  Enough said.

4)  My nephew.  I called my mom earlier this week to ask a question, and my two-year-old nephew was there.  Mom asked him if he wanted to talk to "Aunt Sarah", and he promptly and emphatically responded, "Nope, I don't".  But then he changed his mind, took the phone, and said, "Hi Sarah.  I playing with cars and trucks".  And that was that.  He has important things to do, after all.

5)  Three Cups of Tea.  I finished the book, Three Cups of Tea, this week.  You can find my review here, but I just have to say that this book completely captured my heart.  The story of what one man can do with nothing but sheer determination has reminded me that just one person can make a difference in this crazy world.  All you need is a voice and the faith to do what most people won't.

Happy Friday!

  1. I enjoyed your list. Our church didn't have trunk or treat this year, and I am sad ...

The book, Three Cups of Tea, sounds great. I'll have to look for it.

  3. I read Three Cups of Tea a couple of years ago and I agree with your comment that it amazed me what one person can do. Have you read The Hole in Our Gospel by Richard Stearns? I recommend it!

Ya gotta love those honest and forthright little guys!

  4. Welcome to FFF, Sarah! It's great to have you.

How wonderful to have co-workers who are fellow believers and you can all support each other.

I've been wondering about Three cups of Tea. I'll have to get on my reading list.
