Friday's Fave Five #2

It's Friday which means it's time for Friday's Fave Five hosted by Living to Tell the Story.  Here we go...

1)  Praise Music.  Until Wednesday night I had felt frustrated about this work week.  It was one of those weeks where I felt super busy but I hadn't really accomplished anything.  Wednesday night I grudgingly drove across town (30 miles) to church because we had practice for the music we're singing Sunday morning.  We sat in the church foyer and sang through the songs, and as we did I could feel my spirits lift.  Thursday morning I took my CD of songs and listened to it on the way to work.  There's something about singing "You have turned my mourning in to dancing.  You have turned my sorrow into joy" that just won't let you be grumpy.

2)  Puppy kisses.  There's really nothing like kisses from dogs that look like this:

How can that not make you smile?

3)  A hot bath.  After a 2 hour drive home in the rain (thanks to a major freeway being shut down) it's so nice to be able to sit in a hot bath for a few minutes before rejoining the human race.  Plus, Bath & Body Works Eucalyptus Spearmint bath soak makes my day every time!

4)  Standing up for principles.  My brother and my husband work together.  They install replacement windows in residential homes.  This week a customer treated them horribly.  She was insulting, hateful, and verbally abusive.  So my brother called the company they work for and asked to have someone else take over the job - even though it was going to mean a cut in their pay.  I'm so proud of them for keeping their cool while standing up for themselves.  The money will take care of itself.

5)  Friends who show sacrificial love.  (I saved the best for last!)  Sunday night our car broke down.  We came out of our church small group, and the car wouldn't start.  I went to see if we could find some jumper cables, and the end result was a group of 12 people standing around the church parking lot on a dark, chilly November night.  The women chatted while the the men tried to fix the car.  And tried.  And tried.  After almost two hours it became apparent that the problem was not going to be solved that night.  Having one car this week was not an option, and we knew we wouldn't have the money to fix it until at least Friday.  So, when we left we were driving someone else's car ("just get it back to me by Thursday") and we had politely refused offers to pay for a tow truck, a new battery, and even a new alternator.  We decided we'd deal with everything the next morning when the sun was up.  But then, our friend, Cameron, spent his day off driving up to the church, testing our battery and alternator, buying us a new battery and replacing it for us, and even left us a little jumper kit in the front seat just in case we needed it.  We didn't have to lift a finger.  Our friends fixed the problem for us without being asked.  And the crazy thing is that one year ago we didn't know these people!  Of course, we'll pay them back financially right away, but how do you truly pay someone back for taking care of your needs like that?  Hopefully we'll have the opportunity to return the favor sometime soon!  In the meantime, a homecooked dinner just might bridge the gap a little bit! :)

What was YOUR favorite part of your week?

  1. Oh, I love your #5 story! How great. The Lord really takes care of us -- through those who act as His hands and heart. Really neat.

Your doggies are just precious. I'm such a sucker for a pooch.

I'm with you on praise music, that's for sure. Have a great week ahead!

  2. Oh I love stories like #5! That is what having a church family is all about.

Praise music is always a mood lifter because God inhabits the praise of His people. You can't feel His presence without feeling better!

  4. Your last one is so special. A lot of people don't realize how wonderful it is to belong to a church family and how we take care of each other. I love that you shared that with us.
